Is the Commercial for Jack Link Beef Jerky Who Is the Big Foot Guy
Messin' with Sasquatch is a marketing campaign run by American packaged snack company Jack Link's Beef Jerky.
The premise typically involves a group of campers spotting the titular Sasquatch. Then, the campers decide to pull a prank on him. The prank works and the campers run off. Then all of a sudden, the Sasquatch shows up, and attacks the campers as revenge. However, commercials have diversified so that Sasquatch doesn't just stay in the woods, but also goes into the city and even get along with humans (though the traditional ads of him in the woods attacking people still persist).
Tropin' with Sasquatch
- An Aesop: Don't play with wild animals. Or at least don't go out of your way to enrage them.
- A Dog Named "Dog": A sasquatch named Sasquatch.
- Beware the Nice Ones: Sasquatch is very friendly at first, but when humans provoke him, he gets violent.
- Bigfoot, Sasquatch and Yeti: He's now the mascot of a beef jerky company. It's now nearly impossible to find a Jack Link's commercial without him in it.
- Bloodless Carnage: In one ad, Sasquatch ripped off a man's arm as revenge for a buzzer, but there's no blood.
- Bottle Episode: One commercial that has Sasquatch but no humans around is where he picks up a guitar left at a human camp, then goes on a powerful solo until one of his fingers gets hurt so he smashes the guitar.
- Bucket Booby-Trap: Sasquatch falls for this one time.
- Bullying a Dragon: The primary and most prominent trope these commercials use.
- Butt-Monkey: Sasquatch himself. Also an Iron Butt Monkey because he dishes back just as much as he gets if not more.
- Disproportionate Retribution: Some of Sasquatch's acts of revenge are this, like ripping off a person's arm for a joy buzzer prank.
- Don't Wake the Sleeper: A few times, Sasquatch is sleeping when humans spot him then rudely interrupt his sleep.
- Dung Fu: After a camper leaves a burning bag of dog feces at Sasquatch's cave, Sasquatch launches his own feces at the camper. And it got in his mouth and eyes.
- Farts on Fire: One commercial has Sasquatch worsen a campfire by farting into it so that it aims at the humans after they do a chair-pulling prank on him.
- Gentle Giant: Sasquatch seems to be this whenever people don't do anything to provoke him. Problem is, that's pretty much all the humans do around him, at which point it becomes Beware the Nice Ones.
- G-Rated Drug: Some viewers questioned if the beef jerky they're eating is making them braindead because whenever someone pranks Sasquatch they're eating Jack Link.
- Horrible Camping Trip: The humans go into the woods, find Sasquatch, prank him and then get attacked.
- Hostile Hitchhiker: One time Sasquatch forced a human in his SUV to give him a ride after offering him one but immediately denying him just for a good laugh. So Sasquatch rips out the passenger (violently, by pulling him right out of the windshield) and forces the driver to give him that ride.
- Humans Are Bastards: Their treatment of Sasquatch is abysmal and whatever punishment he inflicts upon them is very well deserved by them as karma.
- Humans Are the Real Monsters: They bully Sasquatch for no reason other than for their own amusement and to laugh at him before getting pulverized by the enraged beast.
- Kick the Dog: The way humans torture Sasquatch, even though he did nothing wrong, let alone many times he tried to befriend them.
- Laser-Guided Karma: No human has ever pranked Sasquatch and escaped without getting punished by him.
- Mugging the Monster: Humans have offered Sasquatch many things before like a football kick (a la Charlie Brown), getting to sit on a chair or a ride in their car, but they pulled out just for a gag. Cue Sasquatch getting rough on them.
- Nature Is Boring: The presumptive reason why the humans stupidly anger Sasquatch.
- Rage Quit: In one commercial, Sasquatch smashes a guitar after he hurts his finger playing it.
- Roar Before Beating: When Sasquatch makes a roar, it means the humans near him are in trouble.
- Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Sasquatch goes on one after a human wrongs him. And they all do involve roaring.
- Slapstick Knows No Gender: Originally inverted but eventually played straight with the woman who pulled the water bucket prank.
- Too Dumb to Live: Sasquatch is not only strong enough to obliterate humans with his sheer strength, he also looks strong enough to do so, yet many obnoxious campers choose to prank him.
- Wedding Smashers: One commercial had Sasquatch crashing a wedding on his own. He gets his face pushed into a cake by the groom, and so Sasquatch hurls him through the cake which makes pieces of it fly everywhere.
- Would Hit a Girl: Sasquatch throws a blonde woman who played the cliché water-bucket-on-door prank on him into a pile of dirt. In many other commercials, whenever a woman wronged Sasquatch, he would punish her male associate instead although the water bucket commercial made him enter this trope's gender-neutral territory. A downplayed example is the wedding commercial, where, after a couple draw Sasquatch over and the man pushes him into a cake while he and the woman laugh, Sasquatch only throws the man into the cake, while the most punishment the woman gets is having some of it splatter her face. On the one hand, the woman didn't get the same amount of punishment, but this may be justified as it was the man who actually pushed Sasquatch into the cake, so she may not have deserved quite as much.
- What Were They Selling Again?: The commercials have little, if anything, to do with Jack Link's itself, only briefly mentioning it at the beginning and end of each commercial, with the humans carrying a bag of Jack Link's with them and eating some before pranking Sasquatch.
- Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: In one commercial, Sasquatch sics a snake on the campers who pranked him with a can of silly snakes (the typical snake nut can prank).
